long story short...

Black Velvet was founded by Ehud Nathan in 1980, with the aim of remaining true to the tradition, while keeping in touch with developing trends in the ever-evolving world of Irish music.

Band members' original compositions have been added to the repertoire over the years, along with music from other traditions, including the Celtic music of Brittany (France) and Galicia (Spain), as well as music from Sweden, Eastern European influences and Israeli songs.

Black Velvet's debut album was released in 2000 to both public and critical acclaim.
The band released its second album in early 2013. It contains new studio recordings, some of them original compositions, others drawing upon diverse musical influences.
An additional bonus CD features music recorded in concerts with well known guest musicians from Ireland.

The current line-up of the band came together in 2016. The talented and energetic band members perfectly express the richness and complexity of Black Velvet's music - a unique collection of (mostly) newly composed music and songs in the traditional realm, that creates a highly enjoyable sound.

The band released its third album in February 2020.
